The Former Texas Rangers Foundation was formed in 1971 to support and assist in the fulfillment of the Former Texas Rangers Association mission:
To preserve and perpetuate the true history and heritage of the Texas Rangers; to maintain and operate a museum dedicated to the Texas Rangers, including a Ranger Ring of Honor in memory of the Rangers who lost their lives in the line of duty; to establish commemorative landmarks related to Ranger history, to administer a scholarship program; and to encourage our Texas youth to become better citizens by practicing the character traits of a Texas Ranger – Courage, Determination, Dedication, Integrity and Respect.

Captain Rufus Perry
On August 1, 2026, we invite you to join us at Texas Ranger Day, as we honor 21 brave Texas Rangers at our Texas Ranger History Symposium in Blanco, Texas. Over the next few weeks we will introduce some of these men so you will be able to see how special this history symposium will be.
We will start with Captain Cicero Rufus Perry, better known as “Old Rufe” who was born in 1822 and began his service as a Ranger at the tender age of just 14 years old. He encountered many battles through his years as a Texas Ranger and sustained 21 arrow wounds and numerous bullet wounds while in the line of duty. An account of a battle in Uvalde County tells of Rufus being severely wounded by numerous arrows and left for dead by his comrades, he spent seven days crawling back to his post in San Antonio. When Captain Perry retired, he lived out his life between Johnson City, TX. and Hye, TX and passed at home in 1898.
Be sure to join us at the symposium August 1st. as we explore more of Perry’s life and others as Texas Rangers.
